Substantiation De fase 2 studie is gepubliceerd, fase 3 nog niet. Er is vooralsnog geen reden om aan te nemen dat er een meerwaarde is ten opzichte van sapropterine HCL. Voor volwassenen is het handhaven van lage Phe spiegels en daarmee indicatie voor behandeling met deze middelen een internationaal punt van discussie.

Additional remarks De prevalente populatie PKU in Nederland is rond de 700 tot 800 (volwassenen en kinderen). Slechts een gedeelte is responsief. Tevens wordt niet bij alle responsieve patiënten inzet van deze geneesmiddelen nodig geacht. Het maximaal volume in de eerste 3 jaar wordt geschat op het equivalente aantal dat nu sapropterine gebruikt. PKU komt in Nederland bij 1 op de 18.000 pasgeborenen voor (1). Dat wil zeggen dat er per jaar ongeveer 10 tot 15 kinderen met PKU geboren worden.

Additional remarks De prijs voor sepiapterin is nog niet bekend. De prijs voor Kuvan bedraagt voor 30 stuks oplosbare tabletten van 100 mg €510,40 ecl. btw. Indien de kosten vergelijkbaar worden met dit concurrerende product zullen de kosten ongeveer €6.000 op jaarbasis kunnen bedragen.
