Substantiation Uit klinisch onderzoek blijkt dat een langzame titratie van een lage dosis de incidentie van het drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndroom kon verlagen. DRESS syndroom is dodelijk in ongeveer 10% van de gevallen. Hierdoor zal cenobamate alleen in een uiterst geval gebruikt worden.

Additional remarks De prevalentie van epilepsie die bekend was bij de huisarts in 2016 bedroeg 6,6 per 1.000 inwoners. In 2017 had Nederland 13,7 miljoen inwoners >18 jaar. Dit betekent dat ongeveer 90.000 inwoners met epilepsie zijn gediagnosticeerd. Partial onset seizures komen voor bij ongeveer 20%-66% van de gevallen, wat neerkomt op 18.000-59.400 gevallen. Van alle medicatiegebruikers ontwikkelt 1-10 op de 10.000 DRESS syndroom, dit betekent in Nederland maximaal 60 patiënten. De inschatting is dat cenobamate alleen bij een deel van deze patiënten gebruikt zal worden.
