Current treatment options Een combinatie van twee of drie antivirale middelen (cART) uit verschillende groepen met verschillende werkingsmechanismen en niet-overlappende resistentieprofielen.
Therapeutic value Possible added value
Substantiation Rilpivirine is al goedgekeurd voor patiënten >12 jaar oud. Het is waarschijnlijk dat dit middel al off-label werd voorgeschreven voor kinderen <12 jaar oud. Er wordt een 2,5mg tablet ontwikkeld wat helpt bij een meer gewichtsgeschikte dosering (1,2). Naast toedieningsgemak worden in de praktijk ook bijwerkingen van cART gezien waardoor een switch naar een ander middel noodzakelijk is. Ook in die gevallen heeft rilpivirine een plaats (3).

Additional remarks Dit betreft de uitbreiding van indicatie naar kinderen die meer dan 25kg wegen (~6 jaar oud). Er zijn ongeveer 60 kinderen in Nederland met HIV tussen de 5 en 12 jaar oud. Van de 80 geregistreerde kinderen met HIV die behandeld worden met antiretrovirale therapie werd 38% behandeld met een NNRTI (n=30) (1). De inschatting is dat er ongeveer vijf kinderen zijn die behandeld gaan worden met rilpivirine (2).
