Substantiation	Er zijn veel patiënten die toxiciteit ondervinden van ganciclovir en in een beperkt aantal patiënten is er daarnaast ganciclovir resistentie. Foscarnet is de tweede optie maar het toxiciteitsprofiel is ongunstig. Naar verwachting zullen patiënten die nu foscarnet krijgen in aanmerking komen voor maribavir. Daarnaast zal het op de lange termijn mogelijk ook ingezet worden als eerstelijns behandeling.
